          Awards:

          Austin Marchese named 2019 Vanier Scholar

          This week, Austin Marchese was named one of 2019抯 Vanier Scholars, Canada抯 most prestigious award for doctoral studies.

          Austin, who is supervised by Professor Mark Lautens, is recognized for his research proposal "Novel Enantioselective Nickel-Catalyzed Transformations Forming Medicinally and Industrially Relevant Halogenated Compounds".

          Nimrat Obhi earns place in 'Periodic Table of Younger Chemists'

          Announced this week at the 102nd Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition in Qu閎ec City, Nimrat Obhi (Seferos Group) received a special recognition from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

          Nimrat was placed in IUPAC's Periodic Table of Younger Chemists, which recognizes 118 outstanding "younger chemists from around the world leading us into the next century".


          Global Carbon Dioxide Cooling

          It may come as a surprise, but carbon dioxide, the infamous greenhouse gas driving climate change, is also a leading contender in the replacement of hydrofluorocarbons in the next-generation of 揼reen?refrigeration systems.

          It offers many advantages over second and third generation refrigerants, including higher volumetric cooling capacity, lower operating temperatures, non-flammability, reduced operating costs, and lower global warming potential.           Professor Eugenia Kumacheva wins de Gennes Prize

          Professor Eugenia Kumacheva has been named winner of the prestigious de Gennes Prize awarded biannually for outstanding and exceptional work in the field of materials chemistry by the Royal Society of Chemistry (U.K.)

          Prof. Kumacheva has won the award for the design of soft and self-assembled new materials with biomedical applications.
